Sa puntong ito, gusto ko silang bigyan ng discussion tungkol sa pyudalismo, na ang mga Cojuanco ang mga panginoong may lupa at ang mga manggagawang-bukid naman ang mga napagsasamantalahan ng ganitong sistemang pang-ekonomiya; na salot ang pyudalismo sa lipunan sapagkat, habang yumayaman ang mga panginoong may lupa, ay lalong nagigipit, nasasakal at nababaon sa utang ang mga magsasaka; na imbis na makinabang sa mga pinagpaguran nila ang mga nagbubungkal ng lupa, naglalaan ng dugo't pawis sa pagtabas ng tubo't mga pananim, mga nagpapakasakit sa ilalim ng init ng araw, napupunta ang halos lahat ng kita sa mga ganid na asyendero't asyendera.

"Eh sa nalulugi talaga ang Asyenda eh, lahat naman naghihirap ngayon," sagot naman ng tatay ko.

Pa, nakita mo ba yung relos at mga alahas ni Kris sa TV? Eh yung mga bagong damit niya? Panigurado hindi mo pa nabisita yung Plaza Luisita kasi kung nakapunta ka na roon, kakainin mo ang sinabi mo tungkol sa pagkalugi ng mga Cojuanco.

"Hindi totoong nalulugi sila. Ganid siguro pwede pa," hindi na ako nakapag-timpi.

"Eh diba ginawang stockholders naman yang mga magsasaka, ano pang nirereklamo nila. Pagmamay-ari na nga nila yung Asyenda eh," sabi ulit ni Mama.

Oo nga eh, sila ang nagmamay-ari pero tingnan ninyo sila ngayon. Papaya't malunggay ang kinakain nila, wala silang pambili ng pagkain sa kakarampot na sinusuweldo nila. Astig noh? Tapos tatawagin silang mga may-ari ng Asyenda. Ah, oo nga pala, pakulo ng dating pangulo ang Stock Distribution Option sa Hacienda, para hindi ipamahagi ang lupang sakahan sa mga magsasaka.

"Hindi rin totoo yun, Ma."

"Una, bakit ba sila nagwewelga? Pati tuloy yung mga gustong magtrabaho para may maipakain sa pamilya nila nadadamay sa pinaggagawa nilang welgang yan. Tama yung sinabi ni Noynoy sa TV eh, sabi niya, kung ayaw magtrabaho ng mga magsasaka, sila ang bahala, sila rin naman ang magugutom eh." Tatay ko ba ito, tatay ko nga ba ito?

Tatay mo yan, universal, tatay mo yan. Kunwari wala ka na lang narinig.

"Eh niloloko na pala sila, eh di dapat umalis na sila hindi yung ganyan na nagpapa-uto sila, yun ay kung niloloko nga sila. Inudyukan lang sila ng mga komunista nyan eh. Tingnan mo na lang kung sino yung mga tao doon ngayon sa picketline, hindi naman mga magsasaka yan eh, mga militanteng grupo yan. Baka nga sila pa ang nagsimula ng kaguluhan eh."

Napailing na lang ako sa matinding pagtutol. Gusto kong sabihing "hindi pa ba sapat ang kawalan ng makain, ang patuloy na panggigipit at pagsasamantala sa iyo para maisipan mong tumayo at ipaglaban ang iyong mga karapatang nayuyurakan na ng mga mapagsamantala?! Sa ganoong kalagayan ba, hihintayin mo pa ang mga 'komunista' para 'udyukan' ka?! Ganoon na lang ba ang tingin mo sa mga magsasaka? Sa mga Pilipino?"

"May ipinaglalaban sila," sabi ko.

Pasado alas-diyes na ng gabi kami nakauwi sa bahay. Puyat man at pagod, hindi ako kaagad nakatulog. Hindi ko magawang matulog. Bihira kaming mag-usap sa pamilya tungkol sa mga usaping panlipunan. Noong gabing iyon, napagtanto kong masyadong magkaiba ang pananaw naming ng aking mga magulang. Hindi ko alam kung ito ba'y dahil nasa UP ako at ganito ang oryentasyong nakukuha ko o kung masyado lang talagang nagbababad sa telebisyon ang aking mga magulang.
